Summary: I was disappointed with the Act 2006 upgrade. Act for Palm OS is gone and they have replaced it with a hoaky product called ActLink for Palm OS. The Act Link to Palm OS is a static connection that splits the contact and calendar information and drops it into the canned Palm OS programs. Gone are the opportunities. Gone is the ability to schedule a meeting through the contact screen. The new program sends all of the events entered on the Palm to your record in Act. To put it in the correct record you need to delete the one event and then reenter it in the correct contact's screen. Double work. The upgrade of all of the reports proved to be a problem since many of the data mappings have changed with the new version. Finally, if you had Act on an older laptop, get ready to upgrade. They require at least 512M of RAM and without it, you won't be able to get the free tech support. Overall, I wish I would have waited until all of the bugs and enhancements are fixed and reinstalled.

Summary: Just recently I installed Act2006 and pulled in a Ver6.0 database. That was a joy in itself - when you follow the upgrade directions, it fails, every time (this process includes preparing the database for the upgrade in Ver6) - when you don't follow the directions, which means kinda winging it, it works.
But, that's the good news...it does upgrade, I think, as everything seems to work but it is sloooowwwwww, like molasses in January.
When I attempt to deploy by saving a local development copy to the shared network drive, she don't work - I thought that that is one of the most powerful features of Act - multi-user capabilities. Wrong. I can't even get started! Never had that problem in Ver6 - course it was based on an entirely different database engine.
When I searched the Act online knowledgebase I found a pile of potential fixes for this "known problem." Known problem?!! This problem is at the core of the product - running from a network drive. Quite a mistake. Oops. The issued hotfix doesn't resolve the issue. So, I'm left to sort through the remaining fixes.
Customer service is brutal - I've tried to get through twice. And I've sat on hold twice for 30+ minutes - I can't afford that kind of customer service. They recommend Live Chat Assistance - if you can figure out how to access it ("sorry, your password/username is incorrect") - it's almost like they are trying purposefully to be sadistic and cruel.
My advice - stay with Act6.0 - avoid Ver's 2005 and 2006 like they were the plague. And if you are new to the product...run away, fast.
