"What a riot..."
Pros: Kinda looks the same as earlier versions.
Cons: Doesn't work the same.
Summary: Just recently I installed Act2006 and pulled in a Ver6.0 database. That was a joy in itself - when you follow the upgrade directions, it fails, every time (this process includes preparing the database for the upgrade in Ver6) - when you don't follow the directions, which means kinda winging it, it works.
But, that's the good news...it does upgrade, I think, as everything seems to work but it is sloooowwwwww, like molasses in January.
When I attempt to deploy by saving a local development copy to the shared network drive, she don't work - I thought that that is one of the most powerful features of Act - multi-user capabilities. Wrong. I can't even get started! Never had that problem in Ver6 - course it was based on an entirely different database engine.
When I searched the Act online knowledgebase I found a pile of potential fixes for this "known problem." Known problem?!! This problem is at the core of the product - running from a network drive. Quite a mistake. Oops. The issued hotfix doesn't resolve the issue. So, I'm left to sort through the remaining fixes.
Customer service is brutal - I've tried to get through twice. And I've sat on hold twice for 30+ minutes - I can't afford that kind of customer service. They recommend Live Chat Assistance - if you can figure out how to access it ("sorry, your password/username is incorrect") - it's almost like they are trying purposefully to be sadistic and cruel.
My advice - stay with Act6.0 - avoid Ver's 2005 and 2006 like they were the plague. And if you are new to the product...run away, fast.

ACT! 2006 (8.0) Upgrade:
