Summary: I bought this online during early Feb 2008 and love it especially compared to my three-year old Toshiba laptop. I went to various stores and examined similar-size laptops from other manufacturers. None compare in features for the price. Also, the AMD Turion 64x2 (two 64-bit chips) TL-64 and TL-66 chips are awesome and much better than equivalent Intel chips in some other mini laptops. These are 64-bit chips with power-saving features that are truly noticeable.
The smaller keyboard takes some adjustment and the delete and end keys are small plus up in the extreme right hand corner. But, some sacrifices are necessary for saving space.
The screen is a pleasure: clear and bright. Easy on the eyes for long viewing. I love the swivel screen especially for presentations and also while on airplanes especially when watching a movie with a friend. The nvidia graphics card is good but I don't know if great because I am not a gamer.
I bought the optional air/car/office power adapter in addition to the included regular adapter, as I travel and although large it is a great accessory. I paid $995 for the computer and power adapter, both brand new in sealed boxes with warranty. The HP all inclusive repair- or-replace regardless-of-cause warranty for an additional three years was $360 extra and includes any problem with the screen regardless if I drop and crack it.
Seperately, I bought a SONY VAIO travel case for 13.3" or smaller computers and it is a great case made from synthetic fibers used in good luggage.
The only difference between the tx1410 and tx1420 is the AMD chip speed with only 0.1 ghz difference. So, you have to decide if such a small chip-speed difference is worth the price difference.
This a a very sturdy machine and weighs approximately 4.7 pounds without the standard or optional power adapters. So if weight is a big concern then you may want to consider other machines. But, I can tell you that you will pay an extra $1000 to save two pounds.
All things considered, I think this is a real bargain and well worth the price.
Cons: HP unfortunately does not provide support for the specialized tablet OS required.

Summary: BEWARE: HP Customer Service is one of the most atrocious, horrendous, and horrific experiences you will ever go through. Be prepared to spend hours on the phone going nowhere and lots of money trying to get problems fixed. HP will not provide you with a recovery disk for tablet Vista and if you have problems with hardware such as your hard drive (a part of the laptop which is not always the most secure), you will have to purchase a new OS from Microsoft.
Cons: Maybe a bit heavy & height for a 12" thin & light

Summary: This notebook is far beyond expected. Great gadgets, the remote control with WV media center is great feature partnered with the S-video tv-out. Got all the hardware you need for great performance. (250GB HD, 2GB RAM, DVD-RW, Dual TL-64 Turion proc.) Tablet PC is great, get MS One Note to have full features of this interesting tool, if not use it to web browse in vertical position while lying down on bed. Misdemeanor is a lot of HP software that is not useful and makes your laptop slower "get rid of it" and the big but not durable 6-cell rechargeable lithium-ion battery. Great ports and useful pen hideout, as well as DVD-RW with lightscribe feature. With all in hand the best Thin&Light laptop in the market (plus tablet features) and all the hardware needed to have great performance.
Pros: Fast and light for a laptop/tablet at this price
Cons: Does get a little warm in High performance mode and takes awhile to boot up on a cold boot. - easily rectified by using ready boost memory and hibernating.

Summary: I recently had to replace my HP Tablet 1320us after it suffered a hit and run at the airport. I was so happy with it that I went to buy another one, it had been replaced with the 1420 model at my local computer store. It's gets a lot of compliments from the people that see it, I use it everyday both at work and at home, doing programming at work, and video editing at home. No staggers, No problems. Performance improved dramatically after installing Vista SP1. I also purchased the new 8-Cell battery and although I haven't purposely worked on battery until failure, I have used it for 3+ hours until I realize that I had forgotten to plug it back in. I highly recommend HP and specifically this laptop. I am repairing the screen on the other laptop so I will be a happy 2 tablet HP owner in the near future.
Summary: I got this PC on 17 Mar 08 for $950. Right off the bat the space where the pen is stored broke and about an inch of the pen sticks out in the stored position. I approached the store about it in about a week and was told that I needed to contact HP. I got on the chat line with HP (since the 1-800 number will take you about an hour to get through) and was told that I need to send it in for repair. They did say the repair is free but we are looking at at least 7-9 business day to fix this. I guess I expected better service when something goes wrong within a week of purchase. Luckily I have a Dell laptop already so it will not impact me as much. Other things to consider about this computer is that it does run very hot...much hotter than my Dell laptop. I am not sure if it's Windows Vista but my Dell with Windows XP (3 years old...Intel centrino, 1G RAM) runs just as fast if not faster than the HP. I inquired about a Windows XP downgrade with HP but they don't offer it saying that all their components (drivers) are optimized for Windows Vista. The bottom line is I should be excited about the HP notebook but I am not.
