Great TV loaded with features, perfect size for me

Pros: TV looks SHARP
Pivots
Good price for size
Nice picture with analog signal (not typical for cheaper HDTVs)
Nice sound with only two speakers
4 HDMI (although component ((not composite!!!)) offers very comparable results)
Easy to upgrade firmware

Cons: A TV is space specific and so if you want to entertain a ton of people often, you will want surround sound and a little bigger.
S video connection is iffy even with firmware upgrade

Summary: Great TV size for the price that looks great all around. The TV pivots some so I can watch it anywhere in my room. The size is perfect and the features are high-end. The speakers put out a lot of sound even though there are only two speakers on this model which are not facing forward. The picture is nice even when viewing distorted 4:3 regular TV zoomed in.

Great Buy if on SALE!

Pros: Easy to connect up and all devices. Good picture. Very easy menu. Overall a good buy if on sale with company discount and free shipping.

Cons: Sound can be tinny at times. 2 inch shinny black trim around screen that shows finger prints and is hard to clean off. This trim will scratch very fast unless you use a very high end microfiber cloth the you would use to clean a camera lens.

Summary: Great tv if on sale and you can use other discounts. Philips needs to address the black trim.

Good picture - but ....

Pros: - Quite good picture quality
- Very good anitglare
- Good price

Cons: - Minor buzz from backlight or power supply
- Anoying black refelctive frame
- Frame and stand attracts dust
- Remote has to be pointed right at the censor
- Frame is bigger than it should be

Summary: I selected this set as reviews gave it a high score on picture quality, and since this set and the Sharps sets was the only ones with proper antiglare. The Sony sets all had a medium antiglare. Beeing a plasma user, I know about refeltions, and all my future sets will be selected on the criteria of good antiglare - thus LCD.

The 32PFL5403D has good picture quality. Watch a good SD quality movie, and you cant tell the difference from a plasma. Motions are smooth and no LCD pixel effects like in the old LCD days. Sound set to sourround is also quite convinsing - Im impresed of how far LCD have gone, and this is for a low-medium range LCD with a low price tag.

However - the design looks ok in the shop, but not in my bedroom. The piano black frame gives distracting reflektions, its to wide and dominating for my taste. The frame attracts dust like a hoover. The clear ring for ambiligt is made of plastic, and adds to the overall size.

On my set, there is a low frequency buzz, not loud enough for you to claim your money back, but loud enough to get annoyed. If you turn up the sound you propably cant hear it, but with low volume you can hear it - for a bedroom where you sometimes want to turn down the volume this is not optimal. It helps a little to move the set away from the wall - if you hang the set on the wall this buzz will for sure be enhanced.

My conclusion:
You should expect in the year 2008, that buzz from powersupplys was fixed long time ago, that they should have realized that piano black is for pianos and not for TV sets, that frames should be small and not wide for space saving.

Picture quality is good - but I wouldnt buy it again, or recommend it to my friends. There must be other optiions out there - but ofcause, this is my subjective opinion.

Just to mention - both the set and the remote have a low flimsy plastic build quality, and signals low quality.

Usually for procucts, if they bothered to make a high quality build, the inside is normally also made of good quality. My worry for the 32PFL5403 is that the inside was made similar to the outside, with the electronics specified and dimentioned to just pass the warrenty period.
