"This product sucks"
Pros: The model on the box cover is kinda cute
Cons: App crashes, doesn't recognized MicroMV files, pathetic tech support
Summary: My first PC was an Apple IIC, I have a degree in electrical engineering and I write software that's installed in electric utility control centers around the world.
This product is just junk. And the tech support doesn't appear to be much more than broiler plate crap sent from some out-sourced call-center.
If you want to make a career out of being a product tester for pre-beta software then go ahead and buy this. Otherwise shop for something else.

Upgraded from VideoStudio 5 (which I got free with my DVD burner). Paid $50 plus tax for the upgrade to VideoStudio 8. The interfacew is, obviously, much much improved from earlier versions - and simple enough for most users to get through without the need for much of a users manual. I mean, if you can't work this video editing softare, there is online help at the Ulead site in the VideoStudio site area - and if you can't read the online help & tutorials, unplug your computer and give up video editing. It really is pretty easy to use.
And contrary to the engineer's opinion above, it is easy to use. I'm a web architect and I could figure this out, and we're clearly not as smart as engineers.
Pros:
1. Easy to use Interface
2. supports .mpeg (1 & 2), .avi, and other basic file types.
3. Solid online learning areas (but don't bother calling anyone or emailing them cause that's a Ulead Black Hole).
Cons:
1. Choppy video and audio at some points (and its only using like 37% of my cpu / memory on 3.2ghz system with 1gig Ram)
2. They want $30 to get the MPEG4 upgrade. That's such crap. Please. Just freakin include it. Cause now, I have VideoStudio 8 and now there's VideoStudio 9 and I can't even buy the freakin Mpeg4 upgrade for 8.0 cause they don't offer the upgrade to Mpeg4 for VideoStudio 8 online anymore (and I only had the product like 3 months before they took the upgrade offline).
So, bottom line: Great Entry Level video editing software and solid online support, but as your needs grow (to support different video file types for different video hardware playback) - you may need to buy upgrades or move to a new product. -
I love it, my mom thinks I belong in Hollywood. She loves the vaction videos of the kids. Even made one of my youngest sons first play into a nice video, the whole class loved it. (maybe I'll start charging the teacher to record them, hehehe)
Thanks for making my kids feel like movie stars.
